Add a party and items as you bill; choose Cash or Credit and the State of Supply.
Set up printing
Settings › Print: pick a layout and colour. Logo and address come from Settings › General; bank details and UPI from Cash & Bank › Bank Accounts.
Add your team
Settings › Team: invite staff by email and choose each person's role.
Create a BOM
Items › add or edit a product › tick “This item is manufactured (Bill of Materials)” and add raw materials, then Manufacturing › New Production Entry.
Back up your data
Backup & Restore: connect your Google Drive and choose how often to back up.

Frequently asked questions
What is SMI Books?
SMI Books is GST billing, inventory, manufacturing (Bill of Materials) and double-entry accounting software for Indian shops, wholesalers, distributors and factories. It runs on Windows PCs and Android phones, works offline, and keeps every device of a business in sync.
Does SMI Books work without internet?
Yes. Billing, stock, production and reports all work offline. Whatever you save uploads by itself when the internet is back, and your other devices catch up.
Can I use it on my PC and my phone together?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on every device. How many devices can work together depends on your plan — from 2 on Retail to 11 on Factory.
How much does SMI Books cost?
Plans start at ₹149 a month plus 18% GST for a retail shop and go up to ₹599 a month for a full factory. Yearly plans save about 8%. Every new business gets a 30-day free trial of all features.
Does it calculate GST and help with returns?
Yes. CGST + SGST or IGST is applied from the State of Supply on every bill, with HSN/SAC codes. You get GST reports and a GSTR-3B JSON export for your CA.
Does SMI Books support Bill of Materials and multi-level BOM?
Yes, on the manufacturing plans. Each product can have a BOM with materials, labour and overhead. During a production run any sub-assembly that is short is produced first automatically, then raw material is consumed and finished goods are added to stock.
Is it proper double-entry accounting?
Yes. Every invoice, bill, payment, expense and production run posts its own double-entry journal, so you get a day book, ledgers, trial balance, profit & loss and balance sheet without typing journals.
Can I print on a thermal printer?
Yes. Bills print on A4 in four layouts with your logo and colours, or as 58 mm / 80 mm thermal receipts. You can also send the bill as a PDF on WhatsApp in one tap.
Is my data safe? Who can see it?
Only you and the team members you invite. Each business is kept completely separate by server-side security rules, and you can back up to your own Google Drive at any time.
What happens after the 30-day trial?
Choose a plan in the Windows app (Settings › Billing & Plan) or on the renewal page and pay by UPI, card or net banking. If you do not, your data stays safe and readable — only saving new entries pauses until you renew.
Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”. Is it safe?
That message appears for new apps Windows does not know yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.
How do I get help?
Inside the app: Help & Support → Report a problem. The app sends us the details we need and we reply right there. You can also email support@smibooks.in.
